TO BE PROG // 9 PERFORMERS

To be Prog was born in early 2019, from an idea of the pianist Davide Cabassi, who invited Collettivo_21 in his Milanese season Primavera di Baggio. A lover of the genre, Cabassi pushed us towards a new form of musical experimentation, from which important collaborations were born. The composers Luca Ricci, Riccardo Dapelo, Alberto Chines, Lorenzo Moretto, Emanuele Delucchi and Luca Guidarini have produced for us re elaborations of the previously mentioned authors’ pieces. To be prog is a concert in which that feeling of rupture and the desire to go out of the box, to amaze, come back in vogue in an entirely acoustic and original reinterpretation. An amazing journey into a world that has written the history of modern music, but with a different, fresh and captivating interpretation, conducted not by those who have experienced that period, but by those who have known this music thanks to the vinyl and stories of their parents. Inspiring muses are in fact Frank Zappa, ELP, Area, Gentle Giant, Genesis and Pink Floyd. The songs we present have the acoustic sounds of our ensemble integrating the sound of electric guitar and drums in order to create a new sound, which on the one hand insists on the chamber music, on the other hand cites in the rhythmic and timbral research Prog music, a sound therefore aimed at enhancing a more subtle aspect of those songs known in electric or orchestral version. The result is electrifying and much appreciated, it adapts to an attentive listening but also of simple enjoyment, making the concert pleasant for all tastes and open to new possible evolutions. The fine compositional art of authors such as Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant has therefore found a perfect space in the scores for our staff, Pink Floyd’s synthesizers have given voice to the acoustic piano and winds, with a pressing rhythm in a parallel sound dimension, the most popular refrains of Area and Emerson Lake&Palmer, developed in a new mix, have put the clothes of chamber music without losing the pop aspect.
