Marco Decimo completed his musical studies at the Conservatory “G.Verdi” in Milan with M. Leali, then he attended the masterclasses held by D.Shafran, R.Filippini and for the quartet by P.Borciani.
He has played in Italy and abroad (London, Berlin, Madrid, Prague, Budapest, Moscow, Istanbul, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Sydney, New York, Buenos Aires, Santiago, Lima, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Asunciòn) in the 1983 ECYO tour under the direction of C. Abbado; in chamber ensembles including the Borciani Quartets, Stauffer, David and the Edison Trio (collaborating among others with S. Abbado. Palm, with A. Meneses and with R. Honeck in 2005 and 2006 ) and also as first cello of the Stradivari Chamber Orchestra of Milan conducted by D. Gatti From 1997 to 2015 he collaborated with L. Einaudi with whom he made eleven CDs, three of which for Decca Records and numerous world tours playing in the most important concert halls. Also by Einaudi in 2006 he performed and recorded as soloist the two adagio for cello and orchestra da Divenire with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Strings. He has made numerous recordings on record and radio, including the first recording of G.B. Platti’s sonatas for cello, the complete works for trio by Casella, the trios Op. 1 and the quartets Op. 2 by A. Sacchini, the quintet and nonnet by A. Zanella, the double quartet by O. Respighi, as well as works by Brahms (trio with clarinet, with A. Carbonare and A. Dindo), Hindemith (octet, with the Arnold quintet), Vivaldi (sonatas Op.2 and 5, with H. Liviabella), Cherubini (the 6 quartets, published by the Stockholm Bis), Verdi and Puccini (the opera for string quartet also published by the Bis), has also taken part in many recordings by contemporary composers including G. Sollima, J. Adams, M. Gordon, M. Nyman and D. Lang. He teaches Quartet at the G. Nicolini Conservatory of Piacenza.
He performed in Rome, Genoa and Milan the concerto for cello and ensemble Zebra Crossing by C. Boccadoro dedicated to him; in 2000 he composed and performed the piece Ad Agio for cello and strings. He has also collaborated with many jazz musicians including G. Mirabassi, M. Colombo, M. Negri, B. Ferra, R. and C. Marcotulli, R. Pareti, P. Fresu, D. Moroni, L. Minetti, W. Lupi, F. Arnò, the Aisha Duo and with T. Harrell and R. Leao. In 2001 and 2004 with the ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi he performed at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. In 2002 together with the David Quartet he was invited to the Berlin Philharmonic, and in 2004 to the TonHalle in Zurich. In 2006 he performed the Italian premiere of Steve Reich’s Cello Counterpoint. Since 2009 he has taught cello and chamber music at the summer seminars of the Perinaldo Festival From 2010 to 2014 he was first cello guest of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Scala.
He was also the first cello guest of the Filarmonica ‘900 of the Teatro Regio of Turin, and the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini of Parma.
He collaborates with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana. In March 2012 his transcription of De Falla’s Siete Canciones Populares Españolas was performed by La Scala’s cellists.
